Urinary Catheterization

Urinary Catheterization

Urinary catheterization involves the insertion, replacement, and care of an indwelling urinary (Foley) catheter to drain the bladder. A specialized nurse visits your home and carries out the procedure using aseptic technique, always in accordance with the treating physician’s instructions, ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety.

Who It’s For

It is intended for people with urinary retention, incontinence, or difficulty emptying the bladder, as well as patients who need their urine output monitored after surgery. It is suitable for bedbound patients and elderly people with limited mobility, sparing them the difficulty of travelling.

What It Includes

  • Catheter insertion: Placement of an indwelling urinary catheter with sterile single-use materials and aseptic technique, following a medical order.
  • Replacement & care: Scheduled replacement of the catheter, cleaning of the area, and care of the drainage system.
  • Monitoring & reporting: Checking that the catheter is working correctly, recording observations, and communicating any changes to the treating physician.

Safety & Procedure

The procedure is performed by a certified nurse with strict adherence to hygiene rules and aseptic technique to prevent infection. The nurse provides care guidance to the family and promptly reports to your physician anything that requires attention.
