Burn Care
Burn Care
Home burn care covers the nursing management of minor, superficial burns in the patient’s own home. A specialized nurse handles the cleaning and dressing of the wound with aseptic technique, monitors how it is healing, and works closely with the treating physician at every step of care.
Who It’s For
It is intended for people with small, superficial burns that can be managed at home following a physician’s assessment. It suits elderly people, bedbound patients, and anyone who needs regular dressing changes but has difficulty travelling. Severe, extensive, or deep burns are not treated at home and are referred immediately for hospital care.
What It Includes
- Cleaning & dressing: Gentle cleaning of the burn and application of appropriate dressings using sterile single-use materials.
- Monitoring healing: Checking the area for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, and informing the physician promptly.
- Comfort measures: Support to ease discomfort, along with wound-care guidance between visits.
Safety & Procedure
Care is provided by a certified nurse following all hygiene and safety standards. The care plan follows the instructions of the treating physician, and at any sign of worsening or severity of the burn the patient is referred for medical evaluation.
