Injections & IV Therapy

Injections & IV Therapy at Home

For many elderly patients, a course of injections or intravenous treatment means daily or weekly trips to a health centre - journeys that can be exhausting, costly, and a source of anxiety for both patient and family. Our home nursing service brings qualified nurses directly to the door, ensuring every treatment is administered safely, correctly, and in strict accordance with the medical prescription. There is no special preparation required from the patient - simply an appointment at a time that suits. The service covers intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous administration, as well as catheter care.

Who It’s For

This service is for elderly patients who receive regular injection or intravenous therapy - for conditions such as anaemia, vitamin deficiency, pain management, or antibiotic treatment - and who find frequent travel to a clinic difficult or impractical. It is also suitable for patients who have recently been discharged from hospital and need continued treatment at home without disruption. Families who want to avoid the daily grind of clinic visits, particularly during the winter months when outings carry added risk, will find this a straightforward and dependable alternative.

What’s Included

  • Intramuscular injections: Administration of medications such as vitamins, antibiotics, or analgesics directly into the muscle, using correct technique and full sterile conditions.
  • Subcutaneous injections: Administration of insulin, anticoagulants, or other subcutaneous medications - particularly valuable for patients managing diabetes or thromboembolic conditions.
  • Intravenous infusion of fluids and medication: Placement of an IV line for hydration solutions, antibiotics, or other therapeutic infusions, managed carefully throughout the session.
  • Catheter insertion and care: Placement or removal of urinary or other medical catheters by a trained and experienced nurse.
  • Continuous monitoring during administration: The nurse remains with the patient for the full duration of any intravenous treatment, observing for reactions and responding immediately if needed.
  • Detailed nursing records: Every visit is fully documented - medication, dosage, time of administration, and any relevant observations - creating a reliable and accurate medical record.
  • Communication with the prescribing physician: The nurse maintains contact with the patient’s doctor and reports any changes in condition or adverse reactions without delay.
  • Family guidance and education: Where appropriate, we train family members in basic nursing practices so they can provide additional support between visits.

How It Works

  1. Prescription: Provide the medical prescription or referral for the required treatment. If you do not yet have a prescription, we can coordinate with your treating physician. Our nurses always review the prescription before each administration to confirm that everything is consistent with the medical instructions.

  2. Scheduling: We agree on a visit schedule based on the required frequency of administration - daily, every other day, or once weekly. The timing is shaped around both the medical need and your household’s daily routine, to cause as little disruption as possible.

  3. Administration: The nurse arrives at the home with full equipment and completes the treatment under aseptic conditions. Afterwards, they update the family on how the session went and record the visit in the nursing log. If anything concerning is observed, the treating physician is contacted straight away.
