Colostomy Care
Colostomy Care
Home colostomy care supports people living with a stoma so that day-to-day management can be carried out safely and comfortably at home. A specialized nurse assesses the stoma and surrounding skin, cares for the collection appliance, and educates the patient and family, in coordination with the treating physician.
Who It’s For
For patients with a recent or permanent colostomy, people recovering from surgery, and elderly or bedbound individuals who find it difficult to manage the stoma on their own. It supports both the initial adjustment period and ongoing care at home.
What It Includes
- Stoma & appliance care: Assessment of the stoma, gentle cleaning, and checking the correct fit of the collection appliance.
- Peristomal skin protection: Care and protection of the skin around the stoma and early recognition of signs of irritation.
- Bag changes & education: Changing the bag using aseptic technique and teaching the patient and family correct day-to-day care.
Safety & Procedure
Care is provided by a certified nurse following all hygiene and safety standards and using sterile single-use materials. Any changes to the stoma or peristomal skin are documented and reported to the treating physician, who guides the care plan.
