Central Venous Line Care

Central Venous Line Care

Central venous line care covers the maintenance of already-placed central catheters (PICC, port, CVC) in the patient’s own home, keeping the line clean, functional, and safe. A specialized nurse handles dressing changes, flushing, and regular inspection of the line using strict aseptic technique, always in coordination with the treating physician. This service does not include insertion of the catheter.

Who It’s For

It is intended for oncology patients and anyone receiving long-term intravenous therapy, parenteral nutrition, or frequent infusions through a central line. It suits bedbound patients and people with limited mobility who need consistent care of their line at home.

What It Includes

  • Dressing change: Replacing the sterile dressing and inspecting the exit site with aseptic technique.
  • Flushing & patency: Flushing the line per the physician’s instructions to keep the catheter patent.
  • Monitoring & coordination: Watching for signs of irritation or infection and reporting any findings to the treating physician.

Safety & Procedure

All steps are performed by a certified nurse following strict asepsis with sterile single-use materials. Care follows the treating physician’s plan, and in case of fever, pain, or signs of infection the patient is referred promptly for medical assessment.
