Parenteral Nutrition

Parenteral nutrition delivers nutrient solutions directly into the circulation, through an intravenous line, for patients who cannot be fed enterally. A specialized nurse manages administration and monitoring at home, following the nutrition plan set by the treating physician, using aseptic technique and careful care of the line and infusion pump.

Who It’s For

It is intended for patients unable to meet their nutritional needs through the digestive tract, such as people with serious gastrointestinal conditions, those recovering from major surgery, or patients in recovery with increased needs. The service is always provided on physician’s orders and according to an individualized nutrition plan.

What It Includes

  • Administration per plan: Connecting and delivering the solution via an infusion pump, following the rate and schedule set by the physician.
  • Line & pump care: Aseptic catheter care, dressing changes, and checking that the pump is functioning correctly.
  • Monitoring & coordination: Recording tolerance and vital signs, with timely updates to the treating physician on any change.

Safety & Procedure

Administration is performed by a certified nurse with strict adherence to aseptic standards to help prevent line-related infections. The nutrition plan, any adjustments, and overall monitoring are always determined and supervised by your treating physician.
